Brighton

Yesterday morning we took a walk around our Bath neighborhood and toured of the Bath Fashion Museum. The museum is in the Assembly Halls, the place to gamble, dance and generally strut your stuff during Bath's Georgian hay days. The halls are still used and have fine chandeliers. The museum has an interactive exhibit where you can try on clothes, like hoop dresses, corsets, and top hats. We saw this same "please touch" policy at the Avebury Manor, where sitting in the chairs, lying in bed, and fiddling with the knick knacks laying about is encouraged.

In the afternoon we took the train to Brighton, the next royal playground after Bath. The train was packed and we were glad to have reserved seats. Brighton is still a playground, but not exactly for the aristocracy. Gangs of people overflowing from the pubs in the party part of the town, but had a good veggie dinner at a place recommended by our guest house. And Russell Square, where we are staying, is nice and quiet.

The room we have in our guest house, the Motel Schmotel, is the smallest on record and up three flights. Could this be because I am thrifty? The place is very quiet and has vegan sausage for breakfast, so we are not complaining. Oh, and another plus is Rhonda does not need to "mind her head."

We are in Brighton to meet Blair and Mike. And today we did, at the Worthing Rugby Club, where Blair is playing in a Roche (the company that owns Genentec) soccer tournament. We spent the afternoon watching the team play in beautiful weather.

Look for number 5.

We rode the team bus back into town and saw a different part of England than we would hiking and sticking to the centers of the towns as we usually do. What we saw were US style subdivisions with yards and lots of space for cars. We had a wonderful dinner and are in a pub to use the Wy Fy, before going to bed. Tomorrow, London.
